The thermal spas of Papallacta are located in the Andes and just two hours east of Quito. Papallacta sits between the Cayambe & Antisana volcanoes which are the source of these therapeutic hot springs.
The therapeutic thermal pools at Papallacta range from 97°F to 105°F (36°C to 40°C) and contain sulfates, chlorides, sodium, magnesium & lithium. Breathing the steam is reported to be extremely beneficial to the respiratory system and the hot waters also help to remove toxins form the body while minerals are absorbed through the skin.
Known as the “Gateway to the Amazon” and nestled among the towering peaks of the Andes in the foothills of the highly active Tungurahua Volcano, Baños de Agua Santa is named after the many mineral hot springs located around the city.
