The traditionally-constructed thatched cabañas that form La Selva’s 18 superb luxury suites are clustered around Lake Garzacocha, a tranquil expanse of tree-fringed black water that is reached after a 15-minute walk and 20-minute paddle canoe ride from The Lodges’s main dock on the Río Napo as you begin your Amazon tour. The choice is between superior, scenic and family suites: all are airy, comfortable and spacious with modern private bathrooms, hot water, ceiling fans and 24-hour electricity. Each suite has either a private balcony or deck, some with hot tubs. Delicious food, with much coming from The Lodges’s own organic garden, is served in the spacious dining area. After dinner, guests can relax with a cocktail in the lounge-bar with its open views of the lake.
As its name suggests, La Selva offers more than simply smart accommodation. Should the jungle not be enough to relax stressed city dwellers, La Selva has a fully equipped spa with an on-site certified massage therapist, who can provide a variety of massages as you relax to the real, live sounds of the Amazon jungle.
Inner calm can also be restored by taking a Yoga Retreat with The Lodges’s experienced instructor. Beginners to seasoned practitioners are instilled in the art of the five major practices of Yoga, from Hatha to Bhakti. The serene views of the lake help aid contemplation and rejuvenation. Romantics may enjoy taking the optional candlelit lakeside dinner or a sunset-cruise, where lovers drift in a specially decorated canoe while sipping wine and watching a stunning sunset.
Your Amazon tour has not forgotten the jungle amidst all of this pampering. La Selva is located close to the Yasuní National Park and Pañacocha Reserve and, with over 550 bird species recorded in these areas, a stay at La Selva facilitates some of the best birdwatching in the world. The Lodges is also only 30 minutes away from the Yasuní parrot clay lick, the spectacle of which is a highlight of any visit to Amazon. There are many different trails through the primary rainforest from which to choose, accompanied by local naturalist guides. The 35-metre observation tower affords excellent wildlife spotting opportunities to ornithologists and casual viewers alike.
